Any other odd behaviour - lights or wipers coming on?

What about if you refit the old head unit - does it start then?

hi thanks for the reply ,no to the head unit . but i have fixed the ole girl

did not think that fuse 25 had any thing to do with the ecu lights radio and a host of other things all connected
3 fuses reblown after yet another check and there it was

what silly people these car electricians are (being polite)

the info that put me and pa on to the problem was found by pa in the forum 'Dash Lights On with No Key in' Problem (but no BSI) ,good ole pa and im smiling

Glad it's fixed.

The BSI is the cabin fuse and relay "box". It's paired to the dash, the key, and your engine ECU. It handles signals to open doors, heat mirrors, allow the engine to start and many other functions. So if it says "NO!" then the wedding is off.

It's not so problematic usually as people would have you believe, but when it does genuinely fail, yes a right pain in the bum.

Nah, if it genuinely dies you get a used one that's been "virginised" which is like re-formatting your hard drive. You then re-code everything into it; not hard for a specialist.
