Replacing rear wishbone mounts

Hi All,

Steering has become progressively squiffy and I think it's time to replace the rear wishbone mounts as they are soft.

The haynes book shows how to remove the complete wishbone and overhaul the whole lot, something I don't want to do if I can avoid it.

Does anyone know if it's possible to replace the rear wishbone mounts without removing the main wishbone bolt?

It looks like it *might* be possible to do but it's unclear whether there's enough clearance.

Think that is what is known as a "P" bush, due to its shape. If so I think they are easy to do, just one vertical bolt to undo and a good bar to lever down with.

Iirc there are 2 bolts. Why not replace the wishbones full stop if you can afford it theyr'e around £20 a side. Saves arsing around again in 6 months to do the front bushes or bottom ball joint. Do the track rod ends too they're a fiver each for decent ones. Track rod ends made the big difference to handling on mine.

At that money, I'd not mind replacing them every year or so to keep the vehicle 100% Smile I would agree though. I'd not frig about with changing one bush, as with it being a matter of your/your family's safety, I don't think it pays to cut corners...

The rear bushes wear out a lot faster than the rest of the wishbone thus want to replace the bushes only at this stage.

Yes, there are two bolts; one goes into the bush itself, the other through a flange on the bush which also serves to clamp the anti roll bar bush.

(PS: Track rod ends were replaced about a year ago and as for drop links, well, I'm always replacing those!

PS: Where have you found them for £20? Eurocarparts want ~£70 each for them.

My local factors, they quote 50 ish basic non trade price. Maybe we need to set up a parts store! I think the 'euro' in eurocarparts says it all!

20 quid a side lol fell for this one and replacing them again less than 10k miles covered. Febi Bilstein one 75 quid a side, at these will be quality

You'll be well practiced in changing them then! Indicentally I bought delphi's which have neither given up the ghost or cost £70 ;-)
