2nd clutch cable in days
#1
:brickwall:

hi all.

I have a 2006 citroen berlingo, on weds night the clutch cable snapped at the end engine. I then on friday fitted a new one and within 5 miles it snapped again in exactly the same place on the cable. With the new cable fitted and before the old one snapped the clutch felt no different to when I got the van last october, it was not any stiffer or heavy on the pedal. The clutch has not been slipping either. The only thing that it started doing the day before the first clutch snap was a slight whining until the clutch was pressed and then it would start to whine again once pedal was depressed.

I have been told a new clutch but at approx £500 - £600 I wanted your thoughts and advice because to me it just not make sense!

Thanks

Karl

Have you checked the arm for damage/wear that may break the cable? Did you grease the arm where the nipple sits. Was it a good cable?IE not cheap pattern part as opposed to good pattern/genuine.

Is it worth oiling these clutch cables? Noticed my partners Berli clutch pedal is a bit graunchy, you mention greasing the arm & wondered if cable could be oiled as on a bike?

A decent replacement cable will have a nylon lining and also possibly pre-lubed. There should be no need for further lube and it would be difficult to add any in situ anyway.
Do you have the correct fittings in place at the lever arm - that should protect the cable from direct contact?

Thanks, i'll take a look. Just thought it felt a bit graunchy compared to the 1.6hdi. Will investigate. Do you recommend a particular replacement? A lot of comments seem to favour genuine Citroen only.
