remote locking has stopped

'98 van, remote & central locking by key fob - same button to lock and un-lock.

1) Today the remote locking stopped working. I thought it might be the key fob battery so fitted a new pair but still no joy.

2) Turning the key in the lock (either drivers or pass side), locks all doors but then there's a whirring noise from the drivers door lock.

Apparently these have plastic gears that strip their teeth when old.

Symptoms 1 & 2 have happened at the same time so I can't beleive they aren't linked.

So would a broken door motor stop the remote locking working ?

Great joy.

Having done nothing, its all working again, just clunk to open, clunk to lock - no whirring noises.

So I do indeed suspect that a broken door motor will stop the remote locking working !
