Berlingo mk2 Front tyre wear
#1
I had two new front tyres on yesterday, the ones that came off were on when I bought the car and they were wearing to the outside edge so I thought it wise to get the tracking done at the same time. The car went on the ramps and the gauges fitted and the tyre man called me over and showed me the screen, all in green and tracking spot on which I thought odd but he was not at all surprised and explained it as being because it's a French car. Big Grin
So where does this bit go then ?

Both outside edges or just one?? Outside edge is normally toeing out.

Both edges I have had before and it's under inflation. I find my fronts wear like that even when at the stated PSI, so I put in a few extra PSI and ever since it's been even wear.

Sorry,Tucker but outside edge is too much toe-in.
FFrenchie, how many miles on the tyres? I got 26,000 from my front tyres with average use.

I find I have to over inflate my tyres to get even wear across the tread. I had a tracking issue too, but I found that it also showed up by the steering twitching in corners. I got under the car and corrected the toe in by 1mm or so and it felt much better (the edges were wearing). I did get it checked by a proper tyre place a couple of weeks later and they said it was about right but needed a tweak. Since then the steering wheels been off by a couple of degrees. Not enough to go back an complain but enough to be just a bit irritating

It was wearing the outside on the passenger side most. The driver side was pretty even though showing signs of underinflation with wear to both edges. The tyres were on when I got the car so I don't know what mileage they had done. I will try giving them a couple of pounds over to see if it helps
So where does this bit go then ?

Yeah, as I say I find the fronts need more air otherwise they wear on the outer edges.

I don't understand how the stated PSI can be the same front and back. The fronts clearly have more weight above them and this shows when the car is stood as the front tyres have more of a bulge. It seems logical to me that the fronts need more pressure??

outer edge on P/S slow down on the roundabouts or put less steering input in, it's because the van is understeering and scrubbing the tyre

Smile

we got 15,000mls on our front tyres, all twisty back roads fast road driving, that was all in 3 months.
