Hi, my Berlingo broke down today, my initial suspicion was it was the cam belt, it just felt that way, the AA dude confirmed it.
It is a 1999 1.9 n/a diesel.
Lost power and rolled 20 metres maybe, probably dipped the clutch as soon as I realised there was a problem but cannot guarantee that.
Is it worth changing the belt and hoping for the best or do I just assume the engine is borked and seek a new one out, probably a turbo version...

On this engine the valves normally get pushed straight up and break the camshaft/cam caps. So it'll almost certainly need a new head.
Out of interest, how long ago (miles/time) since the timing belt and/or tensioners was last done? Or was this the aux belt failing and getting caught in the timing belt?

It's on 127k, I've just done an oil/filter change and glowplugs, the cambelt I was going to tackle before Easter as it was worrying me a touch!
It was last done at 90k, I think, the history is a bit vague, the vehicle was given to me and I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth!
Edit - Sorry, I only just noticed that I shouldn't post faults here, can someone move this to the mk1 section please?
