Hi,I have bought a Berlingo MK1 1.9D cheap/low millage but needs a bit of TLC...This is the first time working on one of these...behind the battery on the left hand side there is a small black plastic cilinder with two rubber pipes on top and electric wires connected to it on the side...One pipe is still connected but the smaller pipe has been taken off...I traced the pipe that is off and it goes to the front of the engine but is not connected and has been blocked in the end with a plastic bung...I have looked for this part in the Haynes manual but can not see it listed...could someone please tell me what this is and why it is disconnected...the engine runs ok.Thank you

Sounds like it might be the hose to the EGR valve, many people block it to disable the EGR that is either faulty or clogged up with ****

Have a look about half way down this page for a post by teddyc1, there is a diagram of the EGR system.

Yep is definitely the egr vacuum solenoid. It has probably been disconnected/ bunged due to being clogged at manifold and causing rough running. If you need help there are loads of egr threads on here

Thank you , Bob and Adam , now I know what its called I looked up EGR in Haynes and there is a picture and info for it...I also looked at other posts on here that helped a lot...for now I will blank it off...but I will take the rest of the parts off and clean them out..I will also look for a new EGR in case it does not pass emissions test. Kind regards, Stuart

Should be fine unless smoky at idle or under load. It's worth a clean anyway...
