Blanking plates - removal?
#1
Hi folks,

Like a lot of us, I have a mobile phone sitting in a suction-grip holder that's stuck to the far right of the windscreen.
Rather than run the charging lead over the steering wheel and into the fag lighter, I thought it'd be neater to install a USB socket into one of the three blanking plates my XTR has to the right of the 'wheel.
Two questions:
Anyone know how I knock one of these out so I can convert it? (I can build a small circuit to give me the USB socket and the 5v it needs)
Secondly, do you know a good place over to the RHS that offers a 12v rail (only live with ignition will do nicely but perm. live is okay)?

Thanks in advance!

If you can find a copy of the B9 manual which is on this site somewhere, it does have a section called :- Removing - Refitting : Fascia panel and switch and blanking piece assembly, which shows what you require. Sadly it does not show info on a close power source.

Hi Dave, I fitted a trailing socket lead into the dashtop glove box into which I plugged a usb adaptor socket. I fitted a switch into one of those blanking plates you mention to isolate the power which is on permanent live feed. A tricky fiddly job, yes, but well worth the day it took figuring out how to thread a cable through from behind the rear near side panel where I picked up the permanent live feed from.
Whilst I was on with the job I fitted a couple of led lights and a second live socket in the boot area, all fitted with 5 amp and 10 amp fuses.
When charging my phone or using sat nav the lead just fits through the corner finger hole and the phone can hide in the glovebox out of sight if needed.

Thanks to all - the B9 guides do help and I've managed to work out how to get into the blanking plates now. Finding a perm. live is a different story...don't suppose anyone's got hold of Citroen's wiring schematic for the Mk3 B'lingo, have they? It'd be a useful thing to have for any number of reasons Smile
