Speedo 'flicking' up and down

Mk1 2002 van 2.0hdi.

Just started today when stationary, speedo flicking and jumping up and down, ok when driving.

No Eml, unsure of if codes are stored as I have no access to a reader that works on this vehicle.

Possible causes?
Somedays you're the pigeon, Somedays you're the statue.

Speed sensor? If it was at the instrument panel end I'd expect other displays to play up as well.

Any idea where mr speed sensor lives? Replacement costs and difficulty of getting to him?

HBoL tells me:-

"The speedometer drive is on the rear of the transmission housing, next to the inner end of the right hand driveshaft"

It would appear that the wiring connector just plugs into the drive

Opened the bonnet to have a looksee today, and promptly shut it again, It looks to be a bit involved getting to it, think I'll wait till it dies completely before I attempt it Sad

Still doing it, going to have to get it sorted soon, anyone have a piccy of where it lives/what it is so I know what I'm looking for please?

Well it was OK for a few months then started doing it again, 2 days before the MOT!

It passed the MOT so must have behaved for 5 minutes.

I may have an instrument cluster on the way, got it cheap so if it doesn't fix it, it's no great loss.
