No sound from Hi-fi

The coming back to life was solved by removing the old radio, I have fitted a new Alpine headunit, but as before there is no sound, the headunit works fine but no music no crackle or anything.

After a bit of fiddling it seems like the speaker wire to the head height speaker with the light in is live!
I've snipped and isolated it and the hifi works, minus one speaker.
