Oil Change
#1
Hi,
What is the opinion please of the forum to the best mileage to change oil and filter on the mk3 1.6 2010 hdi I see that the view has been to change at 6500 - 8000 miles rather than the 12500 in the schedule what does everyone think? I was going to change every 6250 half way through with the recommended oil Total Quartz Ineo ECS 5W30 can I please ask your views looking forward to any feedback

Regards

On my 2010 XTR I have been changing it every 3000 miles, but this is only because the previous owner had it changed every 12000
I wanted to make sure that the inside of the engine was cleaned of any carbon deposits

Once my first year is up, I will change it every 6000 miles

Every 5000 in my 1.9D. Probably over kill with the journeys I do now compared to years ago when I just did local journeys but of all the habits I've got it's the least harmful Big Grin so every 5k it is. Cheap and easiest to DIY I've ever owned.

use a good quality oil then you shouldn't need to change it earlier than the manufactures recommendation?

Cannot take chances with the HDi motor -change it as early as you like and use the recommended oil with a genuine filter.
6000 is the sensible point.Check the injector bolts for tightness and allow the engine to warm before setting off.Dont blip the accelerator as you switch off.
If you get turbo failure after that then it wasnt your fault.
Mini1275 is on the money by cleaning his motor gradually
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top
