What year Is my van?
#1
Ok im a bit confused as to what year my van is. Its was actually made in 2000 but on the logbook it says it was first registered in November 2002. I haven't got a problem with that but its got a private plate on it. So when it was first sold what number plate would be on the van? Would it have a 2002 plate or would it have a 2000 plate say a X or Y?

It was for sale as a 2002 and havent yet left feedback on ebay. Im not really that fussed as its got low miles and it has been fine apart from oil leak I already knew about before buying it.

Thanks in advance
Paul

It would have been built in 2000, but not registered until 2002 so it probably sat a while before it was sold, depending on what month it was registered it would be on a 51/02/52 reg

So if I was ever to sell the private plate DVLA would give me a 02 or 52 registration number back as the original as it was first registered in November 2002.

You could put the private plate on retention and ask for the original plate but this would cost money and time.

I had a Xsara previously imported from Ireland a few years back, the year of manufacture was 1998, and the date of first registration was Nov 2003 (based on when it was registered in uk) it was issued an R plate, in line with year of manufacture.
It sounds like a similar thing, by any chance is the private plate 3 letters, 4 numbers? If so is Irish import rather than private plate.

Thats an Irish plate, we used to have an Astra on Irish plates and there was about 3 years difference between year of manufacture and year itcwas first registered in UK.

yes that's an Irish plate, first registered in Londonderry, should be a 1.9D 600. http://Www.cartell.ie is a good site for checking Irish plated cars.
The date of first registration will be when it was first brought over to mainland uk, (England/Scotland/wales) The date of manufacture will be when it was first sold over in Ireland.
So it's a 2000 model (v,w or x reg) when first used in Ireland.
