So, how many of you are heading out with rolls of film and an old camera sans lens today?

I'm trying out my limited edition 'Sliding Box' camera from http://www.ondu.si (a Kickstarter-only edition. They have no plans of making more of them for now.)

The camera uses 10 x 14.8 cm photographic paper isntead of film, and so far, I've found that 10s or 1minute is way too short an exposure time. 10 minutes started looking 'washed out', and now I'm testing 20 minutes...

Don't you just love a camera where you not only can have a cup of tea while you're snapping a picture, but also make the tea?

I didn't know anyone even made film or photographic paper any longer. I would be interested to see some of the finished product if you get a chance to post it. They seem to be a bit pricey for what is basically a wooden box with a hole drilled in it.

1272 backed the Ondu cameras on Kickstarter, with a total of around 1500 cameras ordered.

And yes, there's still companies making film and paper.

If it's an old analog Canon, you can use that for pinhole photography, too.

Just remove the lens, cover the gaping hole with tinfoil and poke a tiny hole in it.

Anyway, they never stopped manufacturing 135 and 120 roll film(Well, the big ones stopped, but smaller manufacturers have taken over the market), and the sheet types ( 4x5" and larger) has always had a steady market.
The only formats that has 'died' really is the 126 and APS formats.
(There was the Codak disk format, too, but that was never alive)
Not certain about the 'spy camera' 110 format, but as I never had any good experienes with it... I couldn't care less.
Polaroid Instamatic films disappeared, but Fuji has brought the interest back.

Something you can do with film that you can't do with digitals?
1. Solargraphs. Make a pinhole camera (just a box or a paint tin with a hole in the side, and a B/W photo paper, NOT film on the opposite side), point generally southwards so that it has an unobstructed view of the sun's path over the sky, and leave it there to expose the paper a couple of months... When you open the camera you'll find a colour picture(!) showing the path of the sun for day after day with a faded view of the surroundings.

2. Panoramic pictures. My Zenit horizon 202 take a 120degree picture in just one click (and 20 minutes in the darkroom afterwards. That's 20 minute total for the entire roll, about 20 pictures.) No broken lines or cars that mysteriously shows up two places in a single large picture...

Well the Canon is an EOS 700D. Glad to hear about 4x5 still being available. I've got an old Speed Graphic camera (the kind you see in new reels from the 30's and 40's) with all the bells and whistles including a Polaroid back. May have to dust that off. Thank you for your input.
