Heavy and knotchy steering

Can anyone help, the steering has become very stiff and knotchy, unable to drive now, got a replacement rack but still have problem, pump is pumping fluid round, any suggestions on how to solve this problem?[/size][/font]

Have a look at the universal joint at the bottom of the steering column they tend to dry out and become stiff to turn. Either look over the back of the engine or get it on ramps and spray it with lube and see if it makes any difference.

Check the top of your struts...

What Addo said, the top mount bearings dry out and go stiff, they are only cheap to buy new, strip down the new ones and liberally apply copperslip or some equivalent anti seize

I had the same problems and it was wheel alignment. The tyres wear on the outside and develop a feathered edge.
