Hi my diff on my Berlingo L1 Mk3 2008 1.6HDI has just started to whine....only thing is what replacement gearbox do I get? ive heard that there are loads of different variations....if it goes by number where would I find the number on the gearbox?.....really annoying as I only had a new clutch 6 months ago, only bonus is that it wasn't a dual mass flywheel in it.Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can change it without removing gearbox.. You may need to remove the rear engine mount though.. My Berlingo is LHD and I had to remove it. I had no room on the other side because of steering column.
Your differential has an 84mm case and the final drive is 17x73. Gearbox code is 20DP48..

Just made a few enquires and there are 2 types of 20DP48 Gearbox, and one will fit and one wont and you don't know which is which until you try to fit it as bell housing is bigger on one of them......surely there is some other way to tell..........

That's odd.. 2 different gearbox with the same code? I don't buy it....
You can use any BE4L/R gearbox on your engine. They all fit, no matter the gearbox code, as soon they use hydraulic clutch... The difference will be gear ratio and final drive only...
