Gearbox Trouble
#1
Hi my diff on my Berlingo L1 Mk3 2008 1.6HDI has just started to whine....only thing is what replacement gearbox do I get? ive heard that there are loads of different variations....if it goes by number where would I find the number on the gearbox?.....really annoying as I only had a new clutch 6 months ago, only bonus is that it wasn't a dual mass flywheel in it.Thanks in advance.

You have a BE gearbox.. All of those has a bolt-on diff casing as dumdum said..

Give me your VIN number and i'll tell you what diff do you have Wink

Hi Ricardo Mendes my VIN Number is VF77B9HTC67019301....can the diff be changed without removing the gearbox? thanks in advance Smile

Yes, you can change it without removing gearbox.. You may need to remove the rear engine mount though.. My Berlingo is LHD and I had to remove it. I had no room on the other side because of steering column.

Your differential has an 84mm case and the final drive is 17x73. Gearbox code is 20DP48..

Just made a few enquires and there are 2 types of 20DP48 Gearbox, and one will fit and one wont and you don't know which is which until you try to fit it as bell housing is bigger on one of them......surely there is some other way to tell..........

That's odd.. 2 different gearbox with the same code? I don't buy it....

You can use any BE4L/R gearbox on your engine. They all fit, no matter the gearbox code, as soon they use hydraulic clutch... The difference will be gear ratio and final drive only...

Someone is not listening to you, whether they are breaker or dealer.

A DP48 should be exactly the same from issue 1 to the last unit produced. The potential supplier is working off first principles; either they cannot search the system properly or they are an accredited pillock (Ricardo - babaca, would you say?).

The crux of my gearbox's code is CD74, as seen here. I know that should it go "crunch" in a big way, this is the ID code needed for a perfect match of all ratios.
