A lucky escape

A few pics of my mate's (ex)XTR.
He bought it new last year and regularly used it to go to motorcycle GP's in Spain and Potugal.

On one trip,he was returning from Spain and pulled over in France to a rest area to get some sleep (he uses a truck mattress in the car) when a drunk Frenchman ran into the back of him in the early hours.

The French driver died at the scene,but my mate walked away without a scratch.

Though,if he'd have been sleeping on the right hand side of the car he wouldn't have been so lucky!

The white car in the first pic,in front of the XTR,was all that was left of the Frenchman's car (a Renault I think) after they cut him out.

Wow.. that's some form of perverse good luck there. Perverse in so much as he was lucky enough to have survived, but not so lucky to get hit in first place

Spoke to my mate last weekend and he reckons it'll be a year or more before the insurance pays out,some problem or another with Tesco insurance.
The car is still sitting in France and the assessor reckons it'll cost £14,000 to repair it whereas the car has a value of £13,500 (if it wasn't bent!).
The only thing he has is the three back seats,which he took out before he went on his trip,so.......he may be putting them on E-bay.
