Hi
Fitted a new cam belt on my berlingo 1.9D and notice I now have a whine coming from the engine that increases with acceleration. Does this mean the belt is too tight and what could be the reprocussions if any?
Thanks
Brian

Yes, too tight. Most likely outcome is a leaky water pump.

What addo is saying is, if you continue to run with a belt that's too tight your shiny new water pump will start to leak, plus your risking snapping the belt.
A general rule of thumb is the belt should be able to be twisted 45 degrees no more no less.

If you contaminate a belt with coolant/antifreeze then it will screech like a knackered bearing. Spray a bit of water on the auxiliary belt and if the noise goes temporarily remove the belt and clean it.
