Sluggish van

Hi all,

Our lad has developed a few issues with his berlingo. Its a 2006 1.6hdi.

It is really sluggish around the higher speeds.

Fault codes come back as 0299 Turbo Underboost and also P1351 IDM Input Circuit Malfunction/ Ignition Coil Control Circuit High Voltage.

He also has blue smoke on starting.

From some other advice I have changed the wastegate actuator and the map sensor and still this fault ocours.

I have looked for any split pipes but there is nothing I can see.

Is there any pipes that could split that I have missed could cause this that is common on these?

Any help would be really appreciated

Turbo has probably failed.

Your symptoms do point to that , can you rev above 3000rpm?

If you remove the air inlet pipe from the turbo and look at the vanes if there is any damage to them or the nut is missing the turbo is toast

Usual cause is bad oil/infrequent changes

Lot of work to rectify im afraid.

P.s. p1351 is a fault with the glow plugs, usually one or more is duff

Also with the engine off you can just get your finger in or a tool with the turbo intake pipe off to see if the vane move's up or down left right if it does it's shot :S

Hiya,

Good news is I managed to fix it.

The 3 codes i had were P0299 turbo under boost, P0470 Exhaust gas pressure sensor and P0402 EGR Excessive flow.

The turbo seemed ok so I was still thinking a split pipe.

From under the van, if you look up at the starter motor, to the right of it is a sensor. I think it is the exhaust back pressure sensor, it has 3 vacuum tubes connected to it. Well 1 of the tubes had come off.

Connected back together and it is a different van, fuel economy, power is back where it should be and no further trouble codes.

Ahhhh all related to each other, that's good then p0299 on its own usually is a failed turbo.

Glad it turned out to be an easy fix for you.

Me thinks you should be passing on your knowledge of fixing cars/vans to your son, means you can retire then! :-D
