My steering wheel was pretty tatty. Used one of those Italian leather sew on steering wheel covers and looks a treat. You would never know the state it was in.

Yes you fill through the expansion tank. Be patient. Mine has a bleed next to the battery box. Just take the cap off till coolant comes out.

Think you need some sort of diagnostic for error codes. If it’s driving ok fit the new part and see if there is any change, if not diagnostic is the only way forward that I can think of.

Going to have to delve into the world of EGR valves. Either an electrical fault or EGR is knackered . If you are using a generic OBD reader only thing I can recommend is try to get it read by Diagbox....
