57 Plate Van 1.4 Petrol Engine Starter Motor
#1
Hi I am new to the forum so I apologise in advance if this is in the wrong place.  I have a Berlingo van on a 57 plate with a 1.4 petrol engine - is this quite rare?.  I have a problem with the starter motor which I would like to sort out myself and have the following questions:
Where is the starter motor on this engine?
What other vehicles is this engine fitted to?
Where would I find good diagrams for this engine generally and in particular at this moment for the starter motor?
I have a Haynes manual but its a bit vague.
What is involved in removing and replacing the starter motor.

Any help and advise gratefully received.

There is a thread pinned to the top of the forum labelled MK2 Useful Documents & Materials . You will find manuals. I'd imagine that the starter is a pretty straight forward part to remove and replace. Only a couple of nuts & bolts and just about two or three colour coded cables  - just remove and replace. The only precaution I can recommend is to ensure electricals are turned off and battery disconnected.

Thanks for reply, when I try to access useful Information I get this message:

Is that a problem with my internet connection or with the forum?

It may be that you do not have enough posts to access certain areas of the forum.

1.4 engines seem to be more popular than might be thought, going by what people on this forum have. My first B Desire was a 1.6 but I now have a 1.4 MS.
Citroen provide their service garages with a repair & service program called Lexia. Until 2014 it could be installed on home PCs accessing the online database, but online access to it is now blocked except for registered users (garages). You can buy pre-2014 versions on DVD including the database so no need to go online, which covers all pre-2014 Citroens, but it requires Windows XP. Search this forum and eBay for Lexia, and expect a steep learning curve! Expensive to buy if for only one repair job, some forum posters ask if anyone in their area already has Lexia.
Catcar has detailed descriptions of all parts, including engine components, for all car and van models (I got this from an earlier post on this forum).
http://www.catcar.info/citroen/?lang=en
However it lists two different 1.4 engines under vans (TU3A and TU3JP) so you need to find out which one you have.
The Parkers website only gives specs for cars not vans, but assuming there isn't much difference in their engines, go through the link below to try to find out which 1.4 engine you have.

Sorry for that. I have also tried accessing it doesn't work though in the past it I did manage to access.

If you could remove the sumpguard, you could access starter motor from below with the car jacked up. I dont know whether its at the front or rear for TU3, probably rear coz exhaust manifold is at the front, but it should be easy to spot. However, if you can't identify the motor, then in my opinion maybe you should take it to a professional instead.
