just bought 2004 multispace forte D 1.9D
I had a partner some years ago and after a couple of years of a mitsubishi shogun sport have decided i need something more economical, so I'm back with a berlingo.
unfortunately i didn't put the car through it's paces when i tested it and the 5th gear pops out every so often, I have taken it to a gearbox specialist who looked inside and told me the spline is gone so i need a new gearbox, they quoted me £600 ish for the gearbox and £270 to fit it. So I thought I'd look for a secondhand gearbox, but I'm really struggling to work out the part number. I have gone to the citreon website but can't get the shopping basket up to check the VIN for parts.
any suggestions on how to find the right gearbox??

Go to here:
http://www.catcar.info/citroen/?lang=en
Then enter your vin number in the box at the top left, click search, then go to mechanical > gearbox. The part number in the table for the main unit will be the one your car was built with.
You may need to know your RPO number from the driver's door B post sticker, as this denotes the exact batch number when the vehicle was built and changes can occur on different RPO numbers.
The table will show what part is for which RPO range etc. Use the matching part number in the left column to find your correct gearbox.
I expect they have stripped the gearbox to come to this conclusion and it's not a cable linkage issue?

quite a long list of parts comes up some of them looking very similar after i click on "gearbox" but think this has narrowed it down to a be4n or be4r i shall do some more googling, thank you so much for this, really appreciate it.
They did say the spline, but i guess i misheard and it was spindle, which looking at the diagram sounds right. The car does drive ok, so i am not in any huge rush and am looking about to try and find cheap replacement and a reliable person to fit it.

No worries mate. The RPO numbers dictate which of the similar parts (i.e. the various gearbox models) are the one you have.
If you want, PM me your VIN number and I'll get the info for the build sheet off my Citroen Service account.
