BSI fried?
#1
I have a 2005 2.0 HDI Berlingo. The radio stopped working so I assumed it was the fuse. I turned the two white clips to drop the BSI unit and sure enough the 20A fuse had blown.

I secured the BSI unit back in place with the white clips and now the car is dead.

WHAT WORKS:
  • Electric windows both sides
  • All three 12V sockets (I have the modutop compartments)
  • Cigarette lighter
  • Central locking works when key is put in the driver's door
  • Radio (now the new fuse is in)
  • Electric wing mirror on passenger side
  • All interior lights
  • When I turn on the ignition everything lights up on the dash
  • When I try to start the starter turns strong but nothing more
  • The red hazard button will activate the indicator lights on the dash
WHAT DOESN'T WORK:
  • It won't start
  • None of the lights (headlights/indicator/tail/brake) function
  • The front and back wipers will not work
  • Horn doesn't work
  • Blowers don't work (though can't remember if they will work just off the ignition?)
  • Key fob doesn't function at all
I have tried the BSI reset procedure but get nothing from the side lights or the key fob. The only good thing is that the wipers do a single movement on turning on the ignition.

I have checked every fuse on the car visually including those in the BSI, the engine bay and the bigger 50A/70A ones underneath in the engine bay. All look intact.

Feel I must have disturbed something in the wiring connected to the BSI but god knows what? I've removed all plugs and checked for broken/loose wires but cannot see anything wrong.

Car is dead in the water so any advice appreciated.

Have you checked the fuses under the top fuse tray in the engine bay and the ones behind the glove box if the m59 has those? There are fuses for ignition, fuel pump, all sorts could have blown. I'd be suspicious of a 20A fuse blowing, that's a fair bit of current to blow that. Maybe worth unplugging the stereo and make sure all other fuses are definitely good, then see if it will start.

You have to check wires from key barrel to BSI.
Key barrel is not sending "OK" code to BSI and your engine will not start.

Brajomobil, they have lost a lot of functionality, not just start function. The radio stops working, they replace the blown fuse, then half of the car electrical systems fail...this is more than key authorisation.

To be honest I would be checking the fuses again with a continuity tester or multimeter. Visually checking does not always find a faulty fuse I have found.

Spot on. I'd check every fuse link on the car with a meter and go from there.
