i have a haynes book,, but i'm not sure it suits my machine,,,,, so many different frikken sub-models - wish i could find a citroen workshop manual hard copy (pdf) instead of the silly virtual machine thing i also have,, even though i can plug in all the data about my machine i find the manual severely lacking,, no point to point wiring diagrams, no relay listings, no maxi-fuse listings,,,, and citroen dealers are supposed to use these?

where is the "engine running relay" mounted?? is this the one i have located about the same spot as the fuel pump relay (but under the fender) - they both look rather similar though the one under the fender it longer (same sort of connector, same width,, but twice as long)

the ECU has a Sagem badge on the case

there's one for sale on ebay.co.uk with slightly different numbers

you made no mention of the ignition switch, though i've read they can play up,, i guess i'll test that tomorrow

i'm thinking my next move is to get an auto-electrician out to give me a firm diagnosis,, which really pisses me off as i'm an electronics engineer & hate being beaten by piss-ant machines
It may or may not be the same..
One Sagem/Lucas SL96 is listed in the Haynes Book "Engine Management and fuel injection systems Pin Tables and wiring diagrams vol - 1"
(Alfa Romeo to Mazda)
Haynes number 3558

IT should have a 3row connector.
1,2 = Injector drivers. (they fire in pairs)
3 = stepper motor driver
4 = OS return (Ingition on/engine Running)
7 = Fuel pump relay driver.
9 = SD warning lamp
12 = SD connector t15

There's lots of test conditions and measurements listed:
7: Ignition on: 'nbv' (Nominal Battery Voltage')
7: Engine cranking/running: 1.25V(max)

9: Ignition on, lamp check: 0.25V(max)
9: Engine running, no major faults: 'nbv'
9: Engine running, major faults: lamp on: 1.25V(max)

52: Main relay driver:t10: Ignition off: 'nbv'
52: Main relay driver: Ignition on/engine running: 1.25V(max)

I could try to scan the relevant pages.

Frankly...
I miss the 1.2l in my old GS and the 2.0 from the CX. Both simple engines to understand.
please, scan if you can

another day of fluffing around for me

many thanks for all your assistance thus far
some progress !!!!! finally

removed the fuel pump relay & broke open its cover only to find it chock fulla corrosion (so much for the epoxy seal) - checked the relays actually operate (inside are two standard N/O relays & 4 diodes) and they do, checked the diodes OK, cleaned the relay contacts & refitted

with battery & ignition on, i connected the relay to observe correct relay function, as i was playing with it, i noticed the connectors' molded rubber seal (molded around the wires) is cracked

as i played with this i heard some interesting ticking sounds coming from some part of the engine, so i went n looked at the dash & lo & behold the engine light is now illuminated & i can hear the fuel pump running again

think i'll now remove all the rubber molding & check the wiring, no doubt it will be corroded to bits

YAAAAAY finally something to work with
well, replaced the socket & relay, engine makes nice little self-checking noises now, fuel pump running, fuel rail pressurised, but the ECU light is on permanently & it won't fire

i'm having difficulty finding out which type of scanner would work on this vehicle, so i can read & reset the codes - i phoned a Citroen dealership & a private Citroen specialist & all they could tell me was that they'd have to plug it into their computer to find out whether or not it's OBD2 compliant and which protocol it uses etc

i went to the local auto shop & bought a $200.00 OBD2, EOBD & CAN scan tool, but the vehicle application chart did not include Citroen at all, plugged it in anyway & got a communication error (it won't talk to the ECU)

any ideas?
Unfortunately, these old ECUs use K-Line communications, and most readers use CAN-bus.

The only tool we KNOW works is the Lexia tool.
The iCarsoft i970 claims to work, but I have yet to get it to connect to the ECU in my car, so...

Note that Peugeot uses the same system, so odds are that a Peugeot shop also can help.

Unfortunately, I'm now off on a training course, and won't be back home until friday evening.

Maybe the book is available online.
(Haynes have a subscrion service)
thanks for all your help thus far

i had a world of problems getting diagbox to work, so i ended up just loading Lexia3, plugged it in & i can now talk to my ECU

it had a permanent O2 sensor error & an intermittent injector error - got those sorted out & now no errors show

still doesn't fire up though, mind you i can no longer hear the fuel pump running - checked the fuel pump relay using the Lexia office,, checked the red button,,,, hopefully this will be the last thing to sort

now to check the wiring diagrams & fault find the fuel pump

i'll update again when i get that sorted
I also got issues with my belingo 1.4i 8 valve suddenly it doesn't want to fire up , it can crank but no start ? I hade notice that the engine lamp does not light up ? If u all know do let me info on what to check
This problem does NOT sound as it's the same as the one experienced by the creator of this topic.
PLEASE start your own topic and describe EXACTLY what you see, what you don't see and what you have tried to do to find the problem.
Also, '8 valve' doesn't mean much as all 1.4i TU3 engines are 8 valve engines.
