Full Version: whining noise

my partners 2004 (1.4 Petrol, 64k miles) berlingo is making a terrible noise when i open the throttle, this noise is all the time, i have made a recording of and stuck it on YT

anyone got any ideas of what to look for
Confusedcratch: Belt?
Alternator bearings, pully bearings, belt? Ivwouldn't drive it until it was sorted if it were mine!
Frayed cambelt or aux belt; something flapping on a placcy cover.

I Agree.

It is a rubber/plastic sound.
It does not sound like a bearing.

Very, very carefully use a stick/bar to the ear to locate area sound is coming from.
cheers chaps will get some new belts to start with and work it from there Smile
First thing I'd do is free; remove the two 10mm bolts holding the top cover over the timing belt and check that bugger for fraying - it's only 17mm wide to begin with. :eek:
