RE: Over Revving on gear change - Vossy1 - 24-02-2020

Today I had the same fault and luckily I could divert to the garage who looked at it previously. Upshot, definite faulty accelerator pedal, it's simply not returning back to position quickly enough, in fact the longer you drive the worse it gets. I assume there's a return spring or the like built internally into the pedal, easy enough fix but the mechanic threw another query at me, does the replacement need to be programmed to the car.

The bodger in me says fit a return spring externally. ...lol

If you can easily fit a spring,I'd do  it.Nothing ventured etc.

Well, a update, but I'm not going to mark this as solved until the car gets a good drive out at the weekend.

I enquired about 2 2nd hand pedals on Ebay, neither fit, but 1 of the sellers gave me the Citroen part number, did another quick search and found 1 on Ebay for £14, and for that money it was a given. It arrived today and I will load some pics up shortly for future reference for those who may be interested. The old pedal was slightly stiff on removal from the car but some WD40 has freed it up, still it's not as smooth as the new 1. There is a cover on the back of the pedal which is easily removed and inside are the return springs. The front cover has 2 lugs on the side but it also has 2 welded plastic rivets on the top, I had to remove these before I could get the cover off. Once off you can see the pedal assembly and you can removed the accelerator position sensor from the top of the housing. I can't understand why the springs aren't a servicable part but I suppose given the plastic rivets I can understand why the sensor isn't. Why the need for the plastic rivets who knows, probably to make it none servicable.

Looking at this next pic it appears some of the plastic has worn away on the edge of the wheel (for want of a better word)

Interesting stuff, thanks for the updates.

What was the part number you bought?

Well, the car hasn't been driven much but I'm happy to report it was the accelerator pedal at fault. I've repeated the same 53 mile journey where it appeared and have also taken it on one longer run, all without issue.

@t cancunia, it was part number 1601T9, hope that helps. All the printed numbers on the front of the pedal housing matched up to mine.
