[Tires & Wheels] Rattling rear!
#1
Has anyone had a rattling spare wheel carrier?
I'm tempted to jam in some form of bung unless someone has a more elegant solution?

Thanks.

Interesting question, I've got a rattle on one (2009 XTR) that just sounds like spare wheel rattle but (non-citroen) garage insisted it isn't but couldn't find what it was , Citroen said noise it was a "feature" and nothing to worry about.

If you know it is spare wheel rattle then I will be having a look myself.

Thanks polar. Plastic ratchet clips? Not sure what you mean exactly, would cable ties be a decent subsitiute?

ddb, yes definitely the tyre carrier, confirmed by local (independent) garage; not serious apparently just annoying!

Try removing the unit entirely to eliminate it.

Yes ratchet clips are cable ties by another name.

Great thanks, I'll get underneath tomorrow and try it - thanks for the tip.

Mine came with such a rattle. The cause? The spare wheel had the wrong sized tyre fitted and the looseness was causing the cage to sway. Someone had actually padded out the space with rolled up rubber mats instead of just fitting the correct tyre... Just typical of the kind of nonsense you find whenever you buy a used car and one of the reasons I try not to do it too often! Smile

Interesting. Do you by any chance happen to know what size the spare should be, I'm presuming the same as the other four? From a quick glance underneath it's a steel wheel as opposed to alloy so that could well be the cause. Annoying Angry for you but at least you found the source Smile
