Back!
#1
I sold my little Berlingo 1.9 van about 3 years ago. Bought it for a song, drove it to Greece full of boaty stuff and got considerably more for it in Greece than I bought it for, saved me driving it back! Was a pity though as it was a damned good utility vehicle.

So today I bought a replacement for dogs, shopping, elderly family, loan to family emigrating to the UK ............ Oh and driving to Greece with another load of boat crap! ( A 230 kg engine, 100m of chain, anchor, new engine mounts and 4 truck batteries and a few odds and ends!)

2005 Berlingo Multispace 2.0 Hdi in very good nick all round. Wise to the ferry operators penchant for charging a van more than a car I bought the windowed version this time!

2l diesel has lots of poke in it, certainly better than the 1.9 I had before.

One or two niggles.

Clutch is a little vague but seems OK.

Brakes are not exactly powerful but the last MOT had no issue with them, will have to check pads etc.

Why do Berlingos never have any steering or brake fluid in them? Had to put almost 300ml of steering fluid in and 1/2 a reservoir of brake fluid.

Do gearboxes still loose oil? I guess I should check the levels.

Engine is a bit grimy with lots of old oil on the tappet covers but a good engine room clean will sort that. Is there a common leak I should look for?

The biggie for the moment is the windscreen washers.

All wipers work but neither front nor rear washers work. Changed fuse 14 in the engine compartment fusebox, it looked popped but replacing it made no difference. Suggestions welcome!

Last MOT comment was 'Emissions close to the limit' I will check filters and fresh oil but is there something that can be done about a decent tune up?

You need to check if you have power to the washer motor you need to take the offside wing liner out and you can get at the washer reservoir. Its probably the motor but be careful when you push the motor back in not to dislodge the rubber grommet that makes a seal use a bit of vasoline. Sounds like the motor just needs cleaning and servicing and change the fluids.
Are we there yet????? Huh

Welcome back !

Yes do all filters and the engine oil also clean the egr valve and inlet manifold. Use a strong dode of injector cleaner in the tanks and see how that gets on.
Change gearbox oil for peace of mind - simple job.

Worth giving it a decently long spin up the motorway to give it chance for a full regen.

It got delivered from Melton Mobray to North Wales, should be a good burn but I'll wind it right up and give it an Italian Tune up.

Injector cleaner is a good idea.

Filters and oil change coming up!

You will get different ideas regarding injector cleaner but im a retired motor vehicle engineer and trust me it works.

I use Millers and some german stuff i get off a mate of mine (name cant remember) but any good injector cleaner will help prolong injector life and cut emissions.

A 2005 2.0 HDi won't have a diesel particulate filter (DPF)  so no regen to take place.

A good motorway run won't do any harm though.

Can't be much of a mate if you forgot his name  Big Grin  I used the Miller stuff last year just on a whim and it does smooth things out and the results seem to last as well.
So where does this bit go then ?
