No electrics working
#1
Parked my 2003 2.0hdi yesterday with no faults.
Went back to it this morning unlocked as normal with remote. Turned on ignition and heard relay click as usual but no dash function at all. Engine turns over normally but does not fire. The only electrical items that work are the 12v sockets and electric windows. Cannot relock car with remote. Any suggestions.

My spidey senses would say check the battery. You'd think that if the windows worked the dash would work too though, so hopefully others will have better ideas than me lol

Check fuses & connections in the BSM under the bonnet & if they're ok, check the fuses in the BSI.

Do you have an OBD reader that you can try?

I had a quick look on SEDRE and it looks like the starter circuit does run independently of the BSI (see attached), but as mentioned above, why the windows work is a mystery!

Water in the BSI by any chance?

Too dry here for any water problems. I know someone who can connect up and see any faults there may be. just very strange parked up fine then nothing in the morning.

Check the main MF fuses hidden under the top tray of fuses in the engine bay, one of them feeds the BSI. Others the engine ECU and other vital parts. You can't see them unless you take the top layer of the fusebox apart.

When you turn the key, the engine ECU asks the BSI for start authorisation - if the BSI has recognised the chip in the key, then authorisation is given and the engine starts. If not, it just cranks.

It does sound like as said, the BSI is not playing. It also works with the cluster over canbus or vanbus so maybe a fuse powering the dash cluster has blown.

There are no icons on the dash at all? Nothing?

Here's my tuppence worth, if the dash cluster is dead, then perhaps the comm2k is also dead, so no key transponder can be read so no start. The BSI may be fine but if the power to the cluster and in turn, the comm2000 unit is not there, then it cannot check the key and will assume it's not there.

That's where I would start, and it's the obvious thing missing, dead cluster. Also the comm2k has the antenna on it to receive locking and unlocking signals from the key buttons....

By the way, faults like "F201 no Comms with switching unit under the steering wheel" (comm2k to BSI) will not be found by any generic OBD scanner or reader, only P codes work as they relate to the engine and emissions.

F codes or other manufacturers own errors can only be found by specialist, high end or OEM scan tools like Diagbox or Snap-On for example.

See the attached for a guide on no start, and codes associated with each fault.

Thanks I'll check tomorrow see what I can find. Cheers

One of your keys is either missing the immobiliser chip and / or has not been registered with the car's immobiliser via Lexia / Diagbox.  It would be best if you can start a new thread in the correct section (M49 / M59 etc) of the forum, unless one of the Mods can do that for you.

Any recommendations for BSI repair companies. BBA Reman has a lot of bad reviews.
