PITA Spare Wheel Carrier

Further problems, oh yes the original pin is 12mm. diameter but it is not the normal run of the mill but a metric fine thread.... can't use my threaded rod idea.

Unfortunately I can no longer weld due to medical condition so looks like a new pin from the dealer, mucho copperslip and police the situation....
New pin ,run it up and down the hook several times dry ,then coppaslip deep into the bolt threads and nut threads until no bare metal is showing .
Refit the wheel and then coat any exposed thread with more 'slip.

Slightly off topic,Coppaslip(or molyslip) will make a torque wrench reading go absolutely haywire.
Pass the stud extractor....Sad
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

I have been using copperslip since 1976, yes 1976 so I think I probably know how to use it by now. Have probably spilt more on the workshop floor, in my days with the NCB as a mechanical engineer/plant fitter, than most people have ever used farting about with old Berlingos etc....

The continuing saga, Berlingo 1: Andy Womble 0. Conceded defeat and bought a new pin for £6.00, easier than pratting about trying to make one, thread pitch and not being able to use rod that I bought was the deciding factor.

From now on, the new me..... A bit more T.L.C. and P.P.M. on the old girl methinks....

Try this anti-corrosion grease. I use it on my motorcycles and it is good.

Still using a tin of copperslip which came home with me when we wrapped up proceedings at the pit in 1988, probably enough to last my lifetime at the present rate of usage....
