1.6HDi Tuning

Fit the 'injector duration' type and you can keep your knuckles for FREE!
Also they do not raise rail pressure, which may or may not affect the longevity of the injectors/ fuel pump.

I'd also be interested in a link to the 'box' lol

That's an interesting thought. I've been so busy with work that I'd actually forgotten about the box (hence the delay with the figures!), so I'm 99% sure I've not driven differently.

The website for the box I bought was "http://www.bluesparkautomotive.com/carspecs2?carid=976" for the 75bhp 1.6 van. Though I did find them on fleabay (the actual company had a shop) selling a little cheaper. So I bought that way.

I found them very helpful. When I was tearing my hair out, struggling to fit the connector, I phoned them and the tech guy went out to a Blingo and described the process clearly. He offered that if I visited them and stripped the bits out myself, he'd fit the connector FOC. I think that's fair enough.

They also give you a "blanking" connector unit, so if you want to disconnect the box (but leave the wiring harness behind) the connector returns the functionality to it's previous state, just by clicking it in. Handy if the box ever fails?

I'm not associated in any way, just satisfied enough to say so.

BTW, if you're worried about installing the connector, you're right! It is a total PIG!

anyone using a tuning box, mapped or chipped their 1.6HDI ?
Looking some feedback from those who have ventured down this route ; )

the great danger in remapping is the possible increase in harmful emissions. You will almost certainly get a few more mpg which will save money and burning less fuel will lower your CO2 output which is good as far as climate change goes - However you may drastically raise your NOx emissions which are the harmful pollutants that cause problems to our health with horrible illnesses such as heart disease, emphysema, lung cancer, asthma etc.

The original mapping of the engine by the manufacturer will involve a compromise between various pollutants,  lower one and another goes up. We just need to take a look at the VW scandal to see how ecu mapping plays a role in pollution, fantastic engines giving low CO2 and great mpg but it would appear this has all been at the cost of allowing NOx to be unacceptably high.

Before changing any aspect of your engines software / mapping you should learn how it may affect all the pollutants emitted from the engine.

I actually don't care, but thanks !
Running with your logic we should possibly slaughter all livestock too ! Undecided

Well yes since you mention it... That would be logical! Eating meat is environmentally disastrous on many levels... We've only got away with it thus far because they didn't eat all that much in China and the Indian subcontinent... (-)

Maybe it is time to totally remove the 'Tuning' section of berlingoforum.co.uk ?
Anybody who has watched the ultimate visionary movie 'Demolition Man' when Stallone is unfrozen in 2036 and all he wants to do (apart from the hunka chunka with Sandra Bullock), Is drive the modified Oldsmobile 442 out of the Museum, will realise what its about to be like even contemplating tinkering with a Car. Lets all tow caravans instead.

I am not sure of the relevance of your livestock comment; there is certainly some global warming issues with methane from cattle etc but having a vehicle remapped usually reduces  greenhouse gases - so may be you could argue that reducing your cars CO2 emissions mitigates your eating meat... (wacky argument, but you could give it a go)  lol

I am surprised that you don't care at all when it comes to the possibility in increasing NOx and the resulting possibility of contributing towards health problems in others.  There does seem to be a lot of people horrified at what VW have been up to, so it is not as though it would be unusual to care (or could that just be those thinking of the compensation?)  . So how far would you go ?  if you could achieve 120mpg but cyclists were keeling over as you passed them would that still not bother you.

However I do understand why some may remap their vehicles, the savings in some circumstances can be enormous; I know a lad who had his truck remapped and the DPF removed, his overall long term mpg went up from something like 8.1 to 8.9 mpg (90,000 mile a year thats a saving of over 4 grand in diesel)  he needs that saving to remain competitive, and if he didn't do it someone else would, so there would be no benefit in him not - we need better legislation and better enforcement but I don't see that happening any time soon.

Anyway good luck with the remapping, I will be interested to know how it all goes and what improvements if mpg you get.

How can you say he is upsetting the environment with a remap for better fuel economy, then condone your truck driver friend removing his DPF and remapping his vehicle?

I wasn't so much condoning as saying I understand why people do it.  The DPF is an obvious one, remove that or bore a hole through the centre is obviously allowing more pollutants into the air that we breath, it is a reckless thing to do.  But the remap thing is not so obvious, it seems on the face of it that using less fuel would be a good thing all round, but if you are using that vehicle in a densely populated area then you may be unwittingly poisoning others by increasing other forms of pollutants such as PM or NOx.

Would be interesting to know if anyone has ever fitted BOTH types of Tuning Box (injector duration and rail pressure), and what the outcome was, (Apart from a massive amount of Soot!)

Do you or anyone have the DTUK fitting instruction sheet for the B9 Berlingo please ? if you could post pictures of the process they advise that would very helpful. Smile
