I have a payload question from what I understand the payload for my van should be 800kg and would that allow "some" or should I try stay under the load limit, run at 600kg so as not to strain the van to hard.

The example being I trade 10kg sacks of logs which would equal 80 sacks, even though payload says 800kg my mind is playing games with me and I feel 80 sacks in my small lingo is to much (weight wise), so I guess I am looking for peace of mind.

My point most things rated tend to allow like 800kg would maybe be 1000kg but for the life of the van they claim 800kg as spec.

Don't forget that the payload also includes yourself and any additional stuff you've got in the van.

I'd stick to the suggested limits for normal use, regularly exceeding the limit is likely to cause damage to the suspension. Don't forget that stopping distances will be greatly increased.

The other side of things being the legal aspect - exceeding the manufacturers all up weight is an offence that causes fiscal discomfort and a dent in your driving license. Enforcement officers in some areas are far keener than others and an overloaded Berlingo really does look it is dragging its rear on the ground ( I've done it before now ) and attracts attention.
