[Engine] Just curious
#1
Hi all,

In my experience so far all the 1.9d wjy engines in the M59's I have come across are fitted with the Lucas/Delphi pump with electronically controlled advance, while in the M49 they had both the Lucas and the Bosch pump. I'd like to know if any of you here has a factory fitted Bosch pump in your M59 wjy engine together with the electronically controlled advance, and what it would entail to swap the Lucas for a Bosch pump.

Regards,

If you have also seen or worked on a factory fitted Bosch pump on an M59 I'd be glad to know.

Hi
I fitted a bosch pump on my M59 about a month ago and its been fine so far . I fitted a new shaft seal and governor housing seal to prevent leaks . Its a fairly easy job but I took my time over about a week during the evenings .
Yes I'm running 100% veg and to my surprise it starts after 1/4 turn which is brilliant !
When finding a bosch pump try to find an early one without the cowling over the stop solenoid as they are a pain to remove .

Cheers

Are you using used veg oil or fresh?

Thanks for your reply. I believe from your description you have fitted the pump from the earlier version in the M49 without Electronically controlled advance? Well its also a popular mod back here in my country. I was wondering if there is a version of Bosch fuel system that has electronics including bsi, bsm, ecu that is compatible with the M59. I still have the Lucas pump and its really a pain to keep running perfect. Probably they phased of Bosch pumps before the M59. Since my engine is consuming oil and I could do with some additional power, I have opted for conversion to 2.0hdi. Was asking for a friend who is still on Lucas. Thanks again.
