Seat removal for seatbelt?
#1
Hi,

Is it necessary to remove the seats in my '04 Berlingo Multispace, to change the seatbelts, or can it be done with out that?
And is it difficult to remove the seats?!

Cheers
Niknak

I don't see why removal is needed but all seats are easily unbolted in a matter of minutes if necessary.

Change belts or pre-tensioners?

If it's the latter, make sure the battery is disconnected 30 mins before to be on the safe side. There will be wiring under the front seats with plugs that can be tricky to disconnect too. I've lost the link to a site that explains it, but it should be easy enough to search around and find what you need.

That great, thanks for your replies..

Yes I did think if i was doing it I could do it with out seat removal, but one place I asked a quote from said they might have to, so gave me a the top end quote in the event that might need to happen, I think really covering themselves just incase.
So i was really wondering about the timescale of the job, which if it means taking seats out might add extra labour time on...

It's the whole belt and pretensioner as a unit... so everything but the stalk.
Im taking it into a local small place, so he'll know what he's doing.
He's just said he reckons he'll do it in 30mins.. just he quoted me £15, and he is cheap, but I thought that extra cheap!

It's been a while since I had my M59, so I may be wrong and am happy to be corrected, but aren't the pretensioners on the stalk that's bolted to the seat?

Spot on, they're always on the stalk in every vehicle.

Yes! you are entirely right!!
All along I've been meaning retractor!!! Idea

I kind of knew it when I was first being advised by a neighbour, and I was trying to explain what I was looking for, and they said pretensioner.
I didn't think that sounded quite right...
...but its been quite a few years since the dog last had a chew on a seatbelt and I've been so busy with my MSc thesis, my mind has been full of other things. p
Plus I have a neurological condition which makes everything even more difficult..so I ran with that..

One month later, lost deliveries and resends, I now have 2 wrong parts  Confused  (yes, I should have checked them when they arrived, but only just did it this morning before i was due to go and get it fitted)

Anyone need pretensioners and stalks?  Big Grin
