Parking sensor Variations?
#1
Hi folks,
Any and all help welcomed here, as I've run out of ideas!  Undecided

I replaced the head unit in my 2012 Berlingo Enterprise Van a couple of years ago. I fitted a double DIN Pioneer unit, which has a much better performance and far better radio reception than the original. However, the real story begins...

The new non-original unit meant I lost the use of the steering controls to alter the date & time & other Citroen menu items, so I fitted a CTSCT003.2 unit from Connects2, which restored all these functions - but still left me with no reversing bleeps - just the visual graphics as originally supplied.  Sad

Recently, fed up with the lack of bleeps, I bought the CTRCT001 unit from the same company, which is supposed to restore the missing bleeps. However, all I get now is the initial bleep on selecting reverse gear, but no further bleeps!

I contacted their support service and received the following reply...

"For the parking sensors with Citroen and Peugeot vehicles there are 2 types of parking sensors that can be fitted to the vehicle. The first type of parking sensors our interface will work with and you will get parking sensor audio. The second type is a rare type of parking sensor, this type will beep just once when the vehicle is put into reverse but then will no further parking tones. Unfortunately at present we do not have solution for the second type of parking system the system is rare and there is no model difference to identify the type of parking sensor system in the vehicle. Unfortunately it appears that your vehicle has the second type of parking sensors on your vehicle."

The big question I have, is that does anyone know of these differences and is it down to swapping the Parking Assistance ECU or does it go beyond that?

Thanks for reading this far! As I said, any ideas are welcomed, as I'm truly stumped....

If you have DiagBox and a Lexia interface, you can configure the beeps to be sent from a hidden speaker under the steering column (the actual fault beeper) and it will beep from there just like the stereo originally did, no extra interface needed. But, it costs the thick end of £50 to £120 to get DiagBox and you need a bit of IT savvy to install it, then learn your way around it.

If you (or a mate) already have this, look under Parking Assistance in Customer Configuration and change the source from "Speakers" to "Unit Under The Dashboard". (I may remember the wording wrongly but it is in there.)

Alternatively maybe @Lighty may be able to help, he has a garage business and is well versed on Berlingo's (Citroen / Peugeot specialist) - I'm sure he would program this for a reasonable fee, then you can return the second connects2 sound module. He is near Notts / Derby I believe (hope that's not a bad description of location Mark).

You can PM him from the link I inserted to his profile (click his username above)

I raised my hopes and fired up Diagbox this morning! The only option I can find anywhere related to the parking assistance is to specify manual or automatic gearbox. The rest seem to be about testing the system and reading the info. Oh well....
I will contact @Lighty though. Thanks for the above, much appreciated.

It is in there somewhere cos I came across it, which version are you running? I have it in v 7.62 I think. I could have upgraded higher but I don't like the later versions, having tried it I went back to 7.62.

It may not be where you think, in parking assistance, I think it's in the programming for the stereo block or driver comfort etc. Try looking in all the settings of customer configuration - there are more than one way of getting to things, a main menu for configuration of things as it goes for sale to customer and a menu in each controller for repair / programming

Hi & thanks,

I have versions 7.855 and also 9.68 and I've just spent (another!) frustrating couple of hours going through all the options I could find without success. I do have to say though, that V7.855 has many more options than the later one! V9.68 only shows manual/auto transmission for the parking assistance, but V7.855 breaks it down into all the available options with front/rear etc. However, nowhere can I find redirecting the sound  Sad

Just to put this tale to bed (would have been quicker, but it rains every 3 hours in Lancashire!).

There is no option in the Diagbox versions I have access to, to divert the reversing bleeps to another speaker on my vehicle. According to the company, the Connects2 harness works with most Parking Assistance ECUs. I've tried another from a much later vehicle and get the same "bleepless" result. I've traced the wiring from the ecu and there are only 2 relevant wires which are both CAN wires going to the BSI. I therefore can't connect anything to the ECU, so I'm back to the beginning, having learned a few new things along the way.

I'd advise any Berlingo owner trying to restore their bleeps, to buy their Connects2 harness from a supplier with an easy returns policy, as you may have an incompatible system like mine.

Of course, if Citroen hadn't supplied the worst radio I've had in 20 years, I'd have left it all alone and not fitted the Pioneer. However, the sound quality and ability to grab good reception all the time, still makes it worthwhile.

Thanks for your help and thanks to @Lighty for looking into this too.

I'll point to this post which shows where in DiagBox the parking sensor audio settings are...I think because you already took the factory radio out, the settings no longer appear.....you probably have to divert the audio to the dash bleeper before removing the factory head unit. Screen shots here: (even more settings are in the pages than shown here but you get the idea)

Zion - I would like to send you a massive "Thank You!!!"

The one thing I had never considered, was the potential change in available options with and without the factory radio!

I went out to the car, removed the new double din unit (so good at that now it only takes me 2 seconds!) and refitted the factory unit. I then ran Diagbox 7.855. Lo and behold...some new options, just like the one you've been pointing me to!

I changed the rear parking assistance output (under the main BSI ecu section, not Parking Assistance, Radio, etc) from speakers to fault bleeper or whatever. This option wasn't there on mine before reconnecting the old head unit!
The reversing bleeps came from this speaker. So I refitted my Pioneer unit and it all still works! Even though this option has now vanished again.

So once again, sincere thank you kind Sir! If we're ever allowed in a pub again and I meet you, the Whiskies are on me!
