acces to tailgate-coonector / BSR module (towing ECU)
#1
Planning to replace the tailgate i have already gained the info that the cables from this are connected on the left in trunk (just behind the wheel on left).
Seen on youtube this would be rather easy as there's a big gap in the metal to get to the connector...
unless of course that same hole has a big block electronics in the middle for trailer-wiring.

yep, this rather simple plug is blocked by what seems to be named BSR-module, what makes me re-think my steps (anything with electronics to be honest, too fragile and expensive)

Could i simply loosen this whole block, put it a bit aside so i can remove connector (tailgate) and can i simply remove earths from tailgate (and most likely this BSR) or is this constant live and not only after contact.

(screenshot from youtube shows the connector for the tailgate (red circle) and mounts from the BSR in green circles, here not installed, unlike in my car)

Yes you can move things. So you already have the BSR? Just move it to the side. The thick white wire is always live. Maybe disconnect the battery and then you can move anything. Put the bonnet up, shut the doors, open th drivers window, wait a full minute and then disconnect the battery. The BSI will be asleep..

Put everything back together. The reconnect battery.

When you reconnect, wait a full minute again, reach in the open window and turn the side lights on, put the key in and put ignition on, no start, press lock button for a few seconds, should hear a beep. Remove keys and open door, start engine etc. BSI is rebooted properly.

I always quake when I see what should be done when the battery is disconnected.  The last time I disconnected was when I fitted a new battery and did none of that but then I am lazy like that. lol
Make life easier - go automatic. Cool
