LED interior display
#1
Following on from a previous thread on changing the bulbs on the date/clock/radio display, I have done the LED conversion.

Purchased R286 LED's from fleabay (10 for £2.99 inc p&p), these are the tiny capless bulbs.
Following the excellent detailed "how to" posted previously (THANKS, LEMSWORLD!) fitting was a breeze.
The only problem after fitting is that LED's tend to have a focussed light, so had the idea of a little white touch-up paint on the end of the bulb. (No problem, as these bulbs don't get hot like conventional bulbs.) This didn't dim the light, just stopped it making 3 distinct patches of light.
Perfect!
Nice spread of light behind the display, even in bright sunlight. (See picture.)
Cheap, quick, easy fix that should last for years.[Image: n54qiq.jpg]

Difference is it is slightly brighter(the picture was taken in bright sunlight), uses milliamps, and should out last the vehicle.
The original is an R286 (T5) 12v 1.2w capless bulb.
The fleabay item is:

I took mine out and took one into a small motor spares shop and he sorted me with 3 new ones for total sum of 60p!

Hi tucker,
Didn't think 30p each for LED was bad?
The other 7 should come in handy for the other instrument panel lights, when get round to changing them.
Then shouldn't have to touch them again.
Result!

There's a little old fashioned motor shop near work which are good for bits and bobs like that.

I like to use him when I can as it will be a sad day when all we have on the high street is Halfrauds.

I know if I take a bulb or a small part in, he'll sort me the same ones. I am never quite certain on ebay.

Had no real disasters on fleabay, yet....
Only use Halfrauds for half price and reduced "sale" stuff on their website.
(See previous thread on Kenwood door speakers. Bargain.)
In an ideal world we should ALL use the local independants.
