Fault code reader for early 2003 diesel MK2
#1
Question
I'm looking for a fault code reader for my early 2003 MK2. It's a 1.9 diesel non-turbo. I've looked around in several places but any of the ones I looked at don't cover pre 2004 diesel models. Can anyone recommend a suitable fault code reader?

I know this is a very old thread, so original poster may not be interested anymore, but it may help someone else so...
Got a 2003 2.0 HDi Multispace. Bought reader from Amazon, same make as above. Didn't work with my Bingo. Worked fine with mate's Focus. So beware if you have diesel pre 2004, as these don't have to be OBD II compliant.

Had one hell of a job finding one that would communicate with my 54 plate 2.0HDI. Have a looksy at some of my older postings.......Finally got one for about £18.00 off e-bay on someone else's reccomendation on forum. You pays your money, you makes your choice.

Apparently petrol motors only had to adher to the OBD II standard from 2001 and diesels from 2004. So hopefully you were OK with your Ebay scanner. Mine didn't work with my 52 plate (bought in 2003) MkII, but was fine with a focus petrol 2005.

Just be careful if you have an early diesel Bingo.

Yes, works ok at getting basic engine fault codes and resetting MIL light, does not give VIN details and mine ain't got ABS. So after sitting on the fence for ages, somebody else on here had bought one and I followed suit for about £18...

Hi everyone! Got one on ebay in the end, works fine. Reads the codes and resets fault light. Thanks again!

Strange that the one I bought for my 2003 HDi didn't work. Only Lexia did.
