Fuel economy on '11 XTR
#11
Not had my XTR 110 long, 35k on odo but only averaging 46.5 over mixed motorway and A roads with no extra load . Don't consider myself heavy footed as have achieved 82.5 in a Skoda Fabia on an economy run.

My XTR110 averaging 51mpg but this is on rural roads between 40 to 60 mph. One thing I did notice, which is obvious I suppose - leaving car running to de-ice in cold spell last month on several days seriously brought average down to 46.5.

It wasn't a direct comparison just a statement to show I don't drive in diving boots. Anything over 80mpg is still unusual nowadays. I am surprised at some people's over 50mpg on motorways figures.

My driving style is sedate, smooth acceleration & braking, 70mph on the m'way. My wife has a Skoda Yeti 2.0 125bhp and gets 47-50mpg, her driving style is a lot less smooth. Citroen suggested that after 4K miles the fuel economy would improve. I was hoping for something closer to 50mpg mixed driving, is this unrealistic?

Thanks.

Interesting, we've had our 110 since last November, 70-75% motorway, rest mixed, returns 50-52mpg. Had a run from just south of Bristol to Plymouth, motorway more or less all the way, came back with driver, passenger and three largish mobility scooters, two side by side pushed in behind the front seats, rear seats removed, and the other split, sideways on the backend, really surprised they went in , had no problem in handling and the performance was better than expected, overall fuel consumption on the trip was 52mpg, that's cruising 65ish mph. The batteries alone on the scooters weigh over 90kilo, so was impressed with fuel consumption. Only difference is I use BP Ultimate diesel which does give more power and mpg.

Also do the same journey minus the scooters in a BMW Msport coupe 2 ltr turbo diesel 180bhp plus, that returns 54 mpg but of course, at a much higher cruising speed, but I think it's engine efficiency which is the governing factor, and of course a very high 6th gear is where the fuel saving comes from.

No offence taken Pete, just thought I better explain myself better. I need to rethink my driving style to get over 46.5 mpg. I think the car could use a higher top gear or even 6th gear.

Our previous car was a new shape skoda 1.4 tdi, we'd be getting about 10mpg more than the berlingo for like for like driving. To be expected really, the skoda was 120g/km whilst the berlingo is 150 ish.

A mostly motorway round trip commute to work of 45 miles at 60mph gives me 52mpg from my 33,000 mile XTR. My previous 2litre Multispace only averaged, on the same journey, 40mpg.

Thanks for all the replies. Looking at the vehicle, seats out, filled with props and all the kit I need for a film shoot, I realise it's quite a large vehicle. I'll keep monitoring the MPG and hope it improves but as a hybrid work/family vehicle, it's great.
