Ignition barrell changed
#1
Can someone let me know if it is ok to put an ignition barrel from a scrapped van into my 05 berlingo van ,my key is very hard to turn and sometimes it can take a lot of attempts to get it to work ,also is it something I can do myself or is it a job for a garage ,,,,cheers

The barrel can be swapped, trouble is that you current key has a chip in it to match your cars immobiliser system, and the new key will not match. If your key is a push button plip key, then you can change the chip from one key to another. If you have the basic key, the hip cannot be removed, so the whole job becomes much harder, and you will need the help of someone who can supply you wit,hm a programmed key or chip.[/i]

Hi
My barrel collapsed completely. got a lock set from my local scrappy for £40 (ingtion barrel, driver door lock, passenger door lock, boot lock and fuel cap) There was a piece of black plastic with 2 wirs coming from it (about the thickness of a pencil. this is the chip reciver and I just swapped mine and my current fob worked. The key blade just pulled out of the fob and I pushed the replacement in. Job done. How this helps. and Good luck

I'm having a new ignition barrel fitted and im changing the chip in the key so I can start the van my question is how do I get a spare key made to fit the new barrel,I don't have a key code card for the van . I do have a key with remote and a spare chip inside also a blank key .how do I get it cut the same as the new key that will then start my van if ever needed .
The new barrel is or a scrap van .

You can get the key code from the citroen dealer for around £15 some key cutting shop's will do key for you i think you have to put the key on the dash and turn ing'n on off ten time's to set the code.

Your best bet would be find an auto locksmith in your area and they will be able to cut you a key and program it for you. As you can drive the van take it to them and you dont get a call out fee.
Are we there yet????? Huh
Ex 1.6hdi van now 3 seater 1.4 multispace

Take your old key to be cut then the new key will have a new chip inside you put the new key on the dash put the old key in the ignition turn on /off ten time's with out starting engine this should code the new key there may be a time limit of about 10 sec i will find out the new key will cost around £50
