Newbie and The Mighty 1.9D Dog-Hauling Adventure Wagon
#1

Hello All!

Just a quick introduction of myself and this mighty Multispace which I picked up a few days ago to do all the things a Multispace was designed to do. My girlfriend and I are getting a rescue dog next week and we have some camping adventures planned for summer, so we’re both really looking forward to getting stuck in to Berlingo life.

The car itself is a 2005 Multispace 'Forte' (poverty spec??) with a 1.9D engine. I'm hoping the tractor-like technology and lack of a turbo will make it a reliable choice. Thankfully we're not in a rush to get anywhere.

Plans for the immediate future include a good clean and hoover round, a proper poke around the engine bay, investigating the condition of the brakes and probably blanking off the EGR. Oh, and the rear tyres need replacing too.

That’s it for now. Looking forward to seeing what’s what here on the forum.

Cheers!

John

Check the service history.

It should have the valve gaps checked/adjusted at around 100K miles.
(It's a bit more involved process than on many other engines)
As long as this is done it shouldn't be too slow.

Thanks Gadgetman. I have a Haynes manual on the way. I’ll add it to the jobs list!

check glow plugs, if they are burned it will not start on cold days, check battery it needs to be good to start quick, check for oil leaks, check the rear brakes the cilinders will leak brake fluid after some age, check rear suspension arms, check AC if you have

Thanks for the list. I’ve got a day put aside next week to get to know my way around the car, so I’ll have a look at the things you suggest. So far, starting seems strong and the glow plugs look new. Other than that, we’ll see...
