Hi All. I've been driving for about 43 years and had never owned a Diesel car/van until a couple of months ago when I bought a Citroen C3 Picasso HDi 1.6. I liked it so much I've just got myself a 2014 Berlingo 75 which I'm picking up next week.
I do all my own servicing and was interested in the views on this forum about using a vac pump or drain method for changing the engine oil. Unfortunately I use the vacuum which appears to be the least popular choice. Look forward to future discussions on the forum.

Hello Onall4 welcome to the forum good to have you with us pumping the oil out is not a good idea on the 1.6 HDI engine you could end up getting a new turbo taking the sump of cleaning all the sludge out and a new pick up pick up pipe for the sump and a new turbo oil feed pipe the way you have to do it get the engine up to temp take the oil filter of first us a cloth to catch hot oil out of the filter other wise the oil goes all over the gear box down on to your under tray then drain the sump leave for some time to make sure most of the old oil has drained out put the sump plug in don't forget the sump plug washer put the filter back in make sure it goes  in the right place / way round so the oil goes through the filter  then put the oil in don't over fill with Total Quartz ineo ECS 5w /30. A thorough draining is worth the effort and the " Correct " oil is ESSENTIAL !!!! don't skimp on the oil.

Otherwise all good ..........................................................................................

Thanks for the advice. However, I'm still unsure draining the oil would be a benefit over the vacuum, particularly in my case. For me to drain the oil I would have to jack up the front of the car for access and to allow room for the catch tray. With the van jacked up this would leave a small quantity of old oil trapped in a corner of the sump which would be more than if I used a vacuum.
Does this mean I have to use a dealer?

No you don't need to go to a dealer you can drive the front onto some ramp's jack the rear up put it on some axle stand's to level it off .
It up to you if you use a vacuum pump .
