rear wiper motor
#1
Our rear wiper motor seems to have packed up this week, fuses all seems fine, and I have found a scrappy who'll send me a working one, with 2 months warranty!, for £37.

My problem is how to remove the old / fit the new. It appears to be held in place with three aluminium 'screws' which seem very soft. Are they actually big pop rivets? Anyone got any experience with these?

Citroen and Peugeot seem to use this type of fixing quite a lot, my window regulators in my old 306 were fastened in a similar manner. Don't quote me but off the top off my head, think they were 5mm in diameter but can't remember the length. If you struggle to get some locally, there are quite a few suppliers on the good old e-bay.

Good Luck

So, they are pop rivets then? they are about that diameter, fitted in rubber washers presumably for damping purposes?

It depends on the age of the vehicle as early ones were screw fixing and later rivets.

Where did you get your motor from? Mine has not worked since I got the berlingo.

The car is a 2001 (Y reg.)

Just searched on ebay, scrapyard is in Bury, Lancs

There is another seller, citroen main dealer, selling rear wiper motors for £30, but these are for the two door model, not the single door up'n'over rear door. they also advertising a front wiper motor for £15! Seems cheap to me and I must admit I'm bit tempted by that if it's the right one as ours is a bit tempramental - maybe i shouldn't have mentioned it here come to think of it!!

Everyone I've spoken to says these fail all the time - and indeed this will be this cars third.

Bloke at the 'yard reckons can fit with small bolts rather than splash out on special Citroen pop rivets, but will see how I think it will all work out and update when I can. The rivets are 'only' £5 (but they look fairly fancy ones, with plastic / rubber inserts)

Right, replacement part arrived in good nick from the scrappy - excellent service!

£37 all in, inc 2 month warranty Smile

Removed rear panel to expose the motor. This is held in place by three large pop rivets (£5 for set as mentioned before). Not having these I have bodged a repair using self tappers into the pre-existing rivets and large washers to hold all together. If it falls apart then I'll just get a set of proper rivets and do it right...

Easy job once at it and hopefully now my wife will be able to see behind her
