OK< my mistake!
Since the switch had fallen off, I was mistaken as to where on the circuit board it sits. Having tried it by the car, on the correct place it works!
Its now a case of whether it can be re-soldered onto the baord. I've a feeling ny soldering irons (which are little used nowadays may be too large (carry too much heat)...let only my near vision at the moment.
Any tips welcome

I find it easier to add a photo as an attachment.
At the bottom of the box where you type the post you will see the "Attachments" section, click "Choose file" then find the file on your computer, after that click on the "Add Attachment" button on the Right..... you will figure the rest.

thanks Mike. Yes, that's the one. I've asked a local specialist who has done something similar for me before... or I'll order a smaller soldering iron and have a go myself.
