As an aside, what is the purpose of that thingy wrapped around the ram,
that looks like a complimentary hotel shower cap? It looks really amateurish.

Great thread guys,

I tried and failed with a CV boot stretching cone.

I then used your collective advice including greasing up the gaiter and starting with it over the rod bolt (covered in protective tape)

I really struggled to get any purchase and felt like I was losing the battle.

Not easy with the tight access and you have to try and push with your wrist and digits in a flexed position.

Just thought I should share how I eventually problem solved it by employing a little 2" G-clamp with a rubber grommet and bit of old inner tube to protect the gaiter to get some much needed purchase to push the gaiter round the corner and onto its home position.

I was able to apply much more force in the right direction and had it done in minutes.  Wish I did this 8 hours ago.

I hope this is useful, as someone posted earlier "work smarter not harder".

Was the gaiter hot when you were putting it on? It becomes a lot stretchier. I'm surprised you needed a clamp but if you had gloves on then that's understandable. It's best to get in there bareback, greasy skin doesn't slip as much as greasy gloves.
