Sorry to hear it, Pete.

We've had our current Berlingo for a couple of months now. It's our first ever diesel vehicle. And both my wife and I are terrified that one day this is going to happen to us. It's only been fuelled four times, and so far, so good, but . . . .

Last time I checked, it wasn't possible to buy a Fuel Angel for a Mk 2 Berlingo. And the petrol cap in the Mk 2 is also designed in such a way that it isn't actually very easy to stick in a DIY note that says "DIESEL".

If you run it till it conked out, it's gunna be a big bill I'm afraid!

Depending on what damage is done, it can cost upto £5000!
Or maybe you'll be lucky and it won't cost more than £200 :p

It can kill injectors, diesel pump, the catalytic converter.........

I really hope it's a cheap fix for you mate!

Not realy a big problem. Just get hold of a big container or two. Also some of that clear plastic tubbeing the sort you use for syphening your home brew.

Feed one end of the pipe into your fuel tank, as far as it will go. Then suck until it flows (try not to get any in mouth) then feed other end into container. As long as the container is at a lower level than fuel tank it will empty fairly quickly.

Once you have worked out that most of the petrol is out. Then start pouring some diesel into tank. It wont hurt if there is a slight petrol mix.

For good messure take the fuel filter out and drain out the petrol from the bowl.
Jobs a good one.

Sorry to hear that Pete. Hope all is well after the repair and that it is cheap. Having driven petrol cars all my life I have a fear of doing the same thing sometime.

Sorry to disappoint you, not quite as simplistic as that when quite high concentrations of petrol are present in the fuel mix. In this case sounds like a potential 50:50 mix and having driven until it stopped could be quite involved and heavy on the wallet.
