petrol egine - starting problems
#1
I have a 2005 petrol 1600 berlingo. I have been having trouble starting it over the last few days. I have had the battery checked and the alternator and it is neither of them. Any suggestions

What are the symptoms??? Is the starter turning the engine over normally or is it sluggish (thought the latter since you had bat and alt checked). Do any of the cylinders fire at all? Are you getting a spark at the plugs? Fuel pump working??

It trys to turn over but no electrics. when it doesnt turn over you can just hear a clicking sound. If you bump it off it starts immediately and then runs fine.

If it starts on a bump suspect:- 1/battery;2/starter motor;3/bad connections-usually batt/eng earth but not always.

As I said earlier, it has already been to the garage and they have checked the battery and the alternator, both in excellent condition, its not them. Will book it in for the auto electrician. thanks for the elp.h

All I have to add is if they have checked everything,why isn't it starting?
I don't mean to sound sarcastic,but there are garages &"garages".Some are pretty useless at diagnostics.

if its clicking then to me that indicates the starter motor, i have had a dodgy starter before where it works then sometimes it doesnt , i maybe wrong but it maybe worthwhile having it checked again somewhere else like Ron says some garages are useless but not all.

Let us know how you get on.

@Sue.....Hi Sue and welcome.
If you were to put your location in your profile it may be easier for folk to recommend a 'good' garage to you.
There are quite a few 'privateers' nationwide who will provide you with excellent service at a much
more reasonable price than the often clueless main dealers.
