Mountain Bikes inside
#11
I picked mine up by cycling there then just throwing the bike in the back. It's not the neatest and tidiest solution though as it's not quite long enough to go straight in, but not short enough to wedge nicely diagonally.

I think a bit of 2x4 across the back with some front wheel roof rack mounts would be the neatest solution, front wheel off, wheel the back in and clamp the forks to hold it upright.

For local stuff I've got a boot rack, not everyones cup of tea but I get lazy over the winter and tended to leave bikes in the back.

Freezing ride, covered in frozen mud, defrost in the back of the car, repeat for 3 months untill there's a good layer of mulch in the boot! Boot rack means I can get home, aim the hose at it on the driveway and chuck them in the garage without having to clean the car!

No pictures but we used to regularly put two fairly basic non sus Claud Butler MTBs in our XTR.

Needs the offside (ie right hand) rear seat removed and the handlebars on the bikes turned parallel to the top tube. This needs an Allen Key the size of which varies between bikes. We have a double ended one that fits both - it lives in the car.

First bike goes in facing rear and as tight as possible to the door adjust pedals for exact fit. Second alongside facing forwards so the chains are inside the 'package'; adjust pedals to eliminate any conflicts. Lash to tie downs with ratchet straps (bungees will do but Aldi had cheap ratchet straps). Only problem is if driver is tall and needs his/her seat well back.

It does not work as well with bikes on the left as chain of outermost bike is exposed.

Latterly we've acquired Brompton folders which are even easier to stow.
