Spare wheel security
#1
Any ideas on additional security for the spare wheel which sits in a frame beneath the car?
Just got a Mk3 and my previous Mk2 had a bolt which fitted through the boot floor, down through the centre of the wheel and into a plastic central boss - thus making it impossible to remove the wheel without having access iinside the boot.
It looked like an after fit as the hole was drilled roughly.
My Mk3 does not have this, only the standard release bolt just inside the tailgate.
Any ideas or suggestions please.
Thanks. Tony

I have read that one should keep the side with the valve stem up towards the body of the car. Apparently with access to the valve stem one can deflate the tire and make it easier to extract from the holder. Can't remember which direction mine is pointing at the moment. Will check when I mount the winter tires in November.

If they really want the wheel then they will just use bolt cutters on the carrier.Sad
Not much you can do other than carry the wheel in the boot:S
My solution, and its certainly not for everyone,-keep my decent spare at home and carry an old just-legal tyre on an old rusty rim.
Not worth the effort of stealing.
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top
