1.6HDI gearbox blown, need a replacement

Just cleaned up the plate and it says 20DP38 on it

Could be. The trouble is Citroën will often supersede a part and remove all reference to the old part number. So even if your box is original, they might have decided the replacement is a different specification. This could be for reasons of improvement, or reducing versions held in stock, or even small changes.

Great! A lot of us in Oz add a Teflon paste to the gear oil, called "G70". Does seem to improve shifting a bit, also covers you against running with too low an oil level by accident...
