Approx twenty years ago I was overhauling the rear hubs/brakes on a 1968 Land Rover Ser 2a. Parked on a slight slope, hand operated transmission brake applied and gearbox set into low first.

Once drove a car home after a sheared TRE sent my mate and I into a ditch, we made a temporary fix with a G Cramp.
Got me home ok ... through the lanes of course ... though I lost count of the number... |

Test your alternator voltage under idle conditions with a multimeter. Start the car, put the multimeter on the +/- terminals of the battery and it should under idle read somewhere ~14.1-14.4V, no auxi... |

It could be brake fluid level as [b]homeruk[b] said.. On the other hand, if it has ABS, you could have one or more damage (or dirty) wheel sensors.. |

Best replace the main rod now IMHO.
My son borrowed my M59 in 2018 and got stuck in gear, drove it from Chelmsford to Southend in 3rd. The big rubber bush had detached and was hanging on the rod.
